The facts about the Treasurer race

North Carolina voters need to know about this race. This is especially true for state and local government employees, newcomers to our state, suburban women, and rural Black voters. Voters who need to know this live in the Mountains, the Eastern parts of our state, and metropolitan areas in the Piedmont, including Charlotte, Greensboro, and Winston-Salem, and need to hear, read, and see this at home and on the go:

  • Wesley Harris is a North Carolina native from a middle class family, the son of a public-school teacher and a local banker. He graduated from UNC and earned a PhD in economics. He is the only candidate with experience in how the state budget operates and in his three terms in the state legislature, he has become a leader on financial and economic issues. He is running for Treasurer to ensure that the money people pay into the state is protected and invested to help everyone.
  • Wesley Harris believes it is important for our state’s money to be used to help ordinary people and not just be used by political insiders to increase the profits of Wall Street. That’s why Harris has been endorsed by public servants across the state, including the NC Association of Educators, the State Employees Association of NC, the Professional Fire Fighters and Paramedics of NC, and the NC Police Benevolent Association.
  • Brad Briner is running on Mark Robinson’s ticket and supports a radical plan to take power away from voters by replacing key duties of the elected State Treasurer with an unelected board of partisan hacks appointed by political leaders in the legislature.1 Brad Briner is out-of-touch with the lives of everyday North Carolinians—he went to an expensive private school in New England and worked for billionaires on Wall Street.2 It’s not surprising that he cares more about Wall Street’s profits than Main Street families.
